Carlow Town is a bustling market centre located on the banks of the River Barrow. It is the capital of the county of the same name. For golfers, Carlow Golf Club is a well respected championship parkland track that provides a severe test. The fine courses at Mount Juliet and Kilkenny are nearby. Close to Tullow, an angling centre near the River Slaney is the Mount Wolseley Country Resort that boasts a fine Christy O'Connor Jnr. golf course. Tullow is famous as the place where the 1798 rebellion leader Father John Murphy was hanged. No doubt the associated song "Boolavogue" will echo in September 2006. As well as the golf courses listed above the fine courses at Rathsallagh, Tulfarris and The European are all within one hours drive. |
