GOLF COURSE GUIDE TO IRELAND

Ireland is a wonderful place to play golf with over 300 golf courses on the island. Visitors normally arrive to sample Ireland's great links courses but an abundance of world class parkland golf is also available. The map below is divided into six regions. Place your cursor over the map to view a summary of each region and click in the map to view a list of that regions golf courses. Region maps are available from those pages containing clickable links to golf course information. Or view a larger version of the golf map with direct links to golf course information.

Golf Regions in Ireland

SOUTHWEST IRELAND GOLF

Beaufort Golf ClubUndoubtedly the most popular Irish golf destination with Ballybunion, Waterville, Tralee and Old Head the main links attraction. The splendid links at Dooks or Dingle should not be overlooked. An abundance of fine parkland courses include the Killeen Course at Killarney and the old & mature Cork G.C. at Little Island. The Shannon Ferry, just north of Ballybunion provides easy access to the links at Lahinch and Doonbeg.

GOLF IN WESTERN IRELAND

Doonbeg Golf LinksLahinch and Doonbeg are already well-known and there are a host of fine parkland courses in the Shannon region. Further north is Galway and beyond are the hidden-gems at Connemara, Enniscrone and Carne, sure to become as famous and as visited as their southwestern cousins. Near Sligo is the well known links at Rosses Point.

GOLF IN NORTHWEST & NORTHERN IRELAND

Old Course at BallyliffinSpectacular scenery and first class golf await those venturing to the far northwest of Ireland. With the highest concentration of links golf courses in Ireland, the golfing delights of County Donegal are waiting to be discovered. Probably the best 36 holes of golf together are at Ballyliffin in two contrasting but unmissable links. Portsalon, the courses at Rosapenna and Donegal Golf Links complete the first rate line-up. Across Lough Foyle is the world famous Royal Portrush with its near neighbour Portstewart and the surprising Castlerock.

GOLF IN EASTERN IRELAND

Montgomerie Course at Carton HouseCan any other capital city boast the number of quality golf courses within a small radius that Dublin can? From the famous links at Portmarnock and Royal Dublin the previously unknown links at The Island, Baltray and Seapoint are now becoming widely recognised. Pat Ruddy's European Club made an instant impact and with a new motorway to Northern Ireland, Royal County Down can be reached from Dublin in 2 hours or less. Add the vast array of outstanding golf courses and the Eastern region offers a huge choice for the visiting golfer..

GOLF IN MIDLAND IRELAND

Esker Hills Golf ClubInland Ireland is an often overlooked golf destination yet offers world class parkland golf at the best value anywhere in Europe. Old mature layouts such as Tullamore, Athlone and Mullingar sit happily among newer creations such as Esker Hills and Glasson. Several new 'resort-style' courses have also appeared including Seve's first Irish design at The Heritage. With new motorways the region is little more than an hour from Dublin Airport.

GOLF IN SOUTHEAST IRELAND

Waterford Castle Golf ClubKnown as 'the sunny southeast' the southeast region of Ireland, little more than an hour from Dublin has some seriously underrated courses to complement the well-known Nicklaus course at Mount Juliet. There are fine established courses at Carlow and Kilkenny and Mount Wolseley is another excellent O'Connor Jnr. design. Clustered around Waterford City are Faithlegg, Tramore, Waterford and the unique Waterford Castle course. For those arriving by ferry there is a fine links at Rosslare.
